LESSON, POWER OF COMMUNICATION, BY SEBASTIAN KARANI
LESSON : THE POWER OF COMMUNICATION IN LEADERSHIP.
By Sebastian Karani, DMCP (Digital Media Communications Practitioner.
*Objective* :
To help aspiring leaders understand the importance of communication in leadership and how it shapes trust, influence, and effectiveness.
*Introduction:*
Leadership is built on relationships, and relationships are built on communication.
A leader's ability to convey their vision, inspire action, and maintain trust depends on how well they communicate.
Leadership without effective communication is like a ship without a compass, directionless and doomed to fail.
Key Points:
1. _Why Communication is Crucial for Leadership_
*Builds Trust* : Clear and honest communication earns the trust of followers. If people cannot understand your intentions, they will doubt your actions.
*Inspires Action* : Great leaders use communication to articulate goals and inspire their team to achieve them.
*Resolves Conflicts* : Strong communication skills help leaders address misunderstandings and manage disputes effectively.
*Enhances Relationships* : A leader must build connections within their network, which requires consistent and meaningful communication.
2. _The Test of Communication in Leadership_
*A leader who fails to communicate:*
Creates confusion and lack of direction.
Fails to motivate or align their team.
Risks being perceived as untrustworthy or indecisive.
Communication is not just about talking; it’s about:
Speaking clearly and sincerely.
Listening actively to understand others.
Acting on what you say to demonstrate integrity.
MATHEMATICALLY, (W=A) To find the value of W, the value of A must be willing to AGREE.
The formula W= A is similar to the expression,
WORD = ACTION.
3. _Practical Habits for Aspiring Leaders_
*Start with Your Inner Circle* :
Practice communicating with your close friends and networks. Use these opportunities to refine clarity, consistency, and confidence in your speech.
*Speak What You Mean:*
Avoid empty words. Align your speech with your values and intentions.
*Act on Your Promises:*
Leadership demands follow-through. Never make promises you cannot keep. Your actions must reinforce your words.
*Solicit Feedback* :
Encourage others to share their thoughts on your communication style. This will help you grow and adapt.
Citing The Turn Around by *Sebastian Karani Asava:*
In my book The Turn Around, I strongly emphasize the importance of integrity in leadership, stating that " ~true leaders are measured not by what they say but by the alignment of their words with their actions~ ." I further elaborate that failure to communicate effectively creates a disconnect between leaders and their people, leading to distrust and stagnation. This insights reminds aspiring leaders that mastering communication is not optional but essential for meaningful impact.
_Biblical Reference_ :
*Proverbs 18:21* : “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
A leader’s words can uplift or destroy. ```Use your voice wisely.```
*Conclusion* :
Communication is the foundation of leadership. Without it, no vision can be shared, no trust can be built, and no team can thrive.
Start practicing now, even in small circles, and develop the habit of speaking with clarity, sincerity, and purpose.
Remember, as emphasized in The Turn Around, a leader who fails to communicate fails to lead.
*Action Point:*
This week, identify one conversation or situation where you can practice clear and intentional communication. Reflect on how your words influenced the outcome and what you can improve.
Class Dismissed!
